Candle Care
Wick Trimming:
Before lighting, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch. A properly trimmed wick promotes a longer-lasting candle, minimizes soot, and prevents the wick from ‘mushrooming.’ After extinguishing the flame post a 4-hour burn, trim the wick before its next use.
Extinguishing Your Candle
To extinguish the candle without causing smoke, you can either place a lid over the candle or gently dip the wick into the melted wax and then straighten it. This method also aids in easier relighting.
Handling Sweating
If your candle exhibits sweating due to extreme temperature changes, simply wipe oƯ the excess moisture. Alternatively, you can light the candle to naturally eliminate the moisture.
Preventing Tunneling
During the first burn, allow the wax to melt to the edges of the container, taking between 1-3 hours. This initial step is crucial to prevent tunnelling, which can reduce your candle’s lifespan.
Fixing Tunnelling
If tunneling does occur, a gentle warm-up can help. Preheat your oven to 175°F (80°C), place the candle inside for about 5 minutes, or until the wax levels out. If necessary, remove any excess wax.
By following these simple steps, you can significantly enhance your candle’s performance and enjoy its fragrance and ambiance for longer.
